City League Division 4

Acle Home

Conditions couldn’t’ve been more different when we entertained Acle C. After the cold and rain of the first meeting, we had lovely blue skies and warmth. We hoped this would lead us on to better things.

In fact, things got worse, much worse. Mary and I started brightly serving well and generally timing the ball. The problem was our opponents were playing even better. We trailed 3-1 and won another game before we succumbed to the barrage of winners, which we had no answer to. We went down 14-2, despite one of out best displays.

It was a similar story next door, as Nick and Peter were blown away against a steady pair, going down 13 -3.

Unlike the first rubber, Mary and I made a poor start and soon found ourselves 8-0. We fought hard and started to make some in roads winning 4 games, but we went down 12-4.

Nick and Pete produced the performance of the night. There steady play unsettled the visitors and took an early lead. The visitors were failed to make the shots of earlier and were in deep trouble. They fought back but our pair clung on for a 10-6 win.

Another heavy defeat against strong opponents. At least we have completed all our fixtures against two of the top 3 sides and are yet to face the bottom clubs.
