Norfolk Girls league Under 12’s

Sprowston 8v1 Cromer

The first game of the new year and it was an intriguing one. A repeat of last year’s cup final. Cromer had pushed Sprowston hard for the title but had fell away towards the end. But now they were in trouble, they had conceded several games including the home game with Sprowston due to player problems. Today was no difference as they had 1 no show, leaving just 6 girls, most a year younger. It was a daunting prospect.

On a bitterly old day, Sprowston followed the example of their younger teams who had played first, and raced into an early 2 goal lead. Cromer tried to play good football but were being over run. To make matters even worst they had play with just 5 players for a time. The home side took full advantage and scored more goals to lead 4-0. Back to 6 and Cromer finally started to stem the flow and created some half chances. Sprowston were not to be denied making 5-0 right on half time.

The cold was starting to bite and both sides seemed to lose their way. The new Cromer keeper was catching the eye with some fine saves as Sprowston pushed forward. They scored a couple of goals against a determined defence. 5 minutes left and there was final flourish with 2 contrasting but highly pleasing goals. Cromer broke away and their forward slotted the ball calmly past the keeper. A thoroughly deserved goal. But Sprowston had their moment to come, straight from kick off. Their forward, returning from a serious illness, scored on her come back, to make it an impressive 8-1 win.

Sprowston continue their march towards another title. Cromer will do well to survive the season, hopefully the new year will bring better fortune for the Crabs.
