North Walsham Parks v Cromer C
This was the big one as we faced a local derby with Cromer. Both teams had lost their opening fixtures. With the weather fine, it promised to be a good match.
Mary and Nick made a flying start, blowing the visitors away, leading 7-1 at the mid point. There was no let up, as we romped to a 14-2 win.
Rick and I were locked in a tough battle against a string 1st pair. We were outplayed early on, but dug our heals in and managed to turn round at 6-2 down. Suddenly we found our form and the comeback was on. We gradually clawed back the deficit and a good last 4 games saw us go down 9-7.
We were confident of holding on for a good win, but Cromer had other ideas. Our top pair were blown away and had no answer to the good play. We managed to win 2 games but it was not enough.
Rick and I made a flying start and raced into an easy lead. But our opponents raised their game and the battle was on. We were struggling now, as the pressure told. We lead 8-7 and the final game was crucial. We held our nerve to win 9-7. The match ended as a draw.
A great evenings tennis and a fair result.
